What is paint?

Generally speaking, coatings are materials that can be applied to the surface of the object to be coated and form a continuous film that adheres firmly.

Paint is a type of coating made from raw materials such as iron oxide or resin, used for decorating and protecting items. The origin of coatings remains undetermined. By 6000 BC, China had already improved coatings by mixing inorganic compounds with organic pigments and roasting them. In 1500 BC, in the caves of France and Spain, paint was already used for painting and decoration. In 1500 BC, the Egyptians used dyes such as indigo and madder to make blue and red pigments, but this kind of coating was still far from perfect. In the 18th century, the development and utilization of flaxseed oil and zinc oxide led to the rapid growth of the coatings industry. In the 20th century, there was a significant development in coating technology, giving rise to various colored coatings with greater adhesion, higher gloss, flame retardancy, corrosion resistance and thermal stability. In the early days, most coatings were mainly made from vegetable oil, thus they were called "coatings", such as the healthy, environmentally friendly and original ecological roasted tung oil. Whether it is the traditional coating products made from natural substances or the modern coating products made from synthetic chemical products, they all belong to organic chemical polymer materials, and the coating films formed belong to the type of polymer compounds. According to the modern classification of chemical products, coatings belong to fine chemical products. Modern coatings are gradually becoming a kind of multi-functional engineering materials and are an important industry in the chemical industry.
